China is the world’s most populous country where 1.3 billion people speak more than 1000 dialects. Although Mandarin is the official language, daily communication among people is in their own dialect. Dialects are symbols of tradition, culture and pride for the local people who are more willing to accept and help their guests if the guests speak their local dialect.

This is exactly why CCAI selects and hires local Chinese staff in all the major provinces where adoptions occur. These highly-educated and well-trained representatives not only speak fluent English to communicate with our adoptive families, but they also speak the dialect that the local Chinese adoption officials use. Their advanced, bilingual ability is a valuable asset to our adoptive families, ensuring a warm reception as well as efficient service from Chinese officials who otherwise could be quite bureaucratic.

To CCAI, one or two representatives in China is not sufficient as s/he may run into communication problems with, and possible rejection by, the local officials because of an inability to speak the local dialect. While our adoptive families are in China, they will be welcomed and accompanied by four to six CCAI local staff at different stages of their adoption trip.
